Most EU company formation services make a quiet bet: that founders only ever need one jurisdiction. Companio bets the other way. It is the only formation service in this category that covers Estonia, Ireland, Bulgaria, and Spain under a single platform and support team. For founders who need genuine flexibility about where they incorporate — or who anticipate operating across multiple EU countries — that coverage is a meaningful differentiator. Whether the execution matches the positioning is what this review examines.

What is Companio?

Companio is a formation and company management platform for digital companies and freelancers. The product began with Estonian e-Residency companies (a natural entry point for remote-first founders) and has since expanded to cover Ireland, Bulgaria, and Spain. The platform handles the full lifecycle: incorporation, registered address, accounting, tax compliance, and ongoing administration.

Compared to Xolo, which built its reputation on Estonian e-Residency and has since expanded to Spain and Italy, Companio is a newer brand. Shorter track record, but also a team that has had to actively differentiate rather than coast on an established reputation. Their positioning centres on broader multi-country support (Estonia, Ireland, Bulgaria, and Spain) and responsive human customer service.

Pricing breakdown

Companio's pricing varies by jurisdiction, reflecting the real differences in what incorporation costs and involves across these countries.

Estonia

Estonia is the most accessible entry point. Under the Premium Plan, formation carries no additional service fee. You pay only the Estonian state fee of €265, with no markup. For e-Residency holders forming an OÜ, that makes Companio one of the more cost-competitive options available. Ongoing accounting starts from €79/month on the Pro plan, in line with Xolo's mid-tier plans and competitive with what Unicount charges for full accounting.

Ireland

Irish incorporation is a one-time fee of €899. That covers incorporation itself, all filing fees, name reservation, and the first year of company secretarial services, which covers the ongoing administrative compliance Irish companies are legally required to maintain. Ireland's 12.5% corporate tax on trading income and the international recognition of the Irish Limited company explain why a higher formation price point remains commercially attractive.

Bulgaria

Bulgaria sits at the premium end: €1,199 one-time. The flat 10% corporate tax rate, among the lowest in the EU, makes the Bulgarian EOOD (single-member limited liability company) a recognised vehicle for digital businesses despite the higher upfront cost. That cost reflects the greater complexity of incorporating in a jurisdiction that requires more hands-on legal and notarial involvement than Estonia's fully digital process.

Spain

Companio also offers freelancer services for Spain, though the Spanish offering is structured differently from the incorporation packages in the other three countries. It suits founders already resident in Spain who need compliant freelancer administration rather than a full company formation.

Key features

Multi-country coverage under one roof. The ability to choose your jurisdiction without switching providers. Form in Estonia today, decide an Irish company better suits your structure next year, add a Bulgarian holding entity after that — Companio manages all of it without you onboarding with an entirely new service. That continuity has real value as your structure evolves.

Built for digital companies and freelancers. The product assumes a remote-first reality: non-residents managing their company online, invoicing international clients, with no physical presence in their country of incorporation. The platform and support workflows reflect those assumptions throughout.

Real-time chat support. Companio claims an average chat response time under one minute. Based on available user feedback, that claim holds up. Fast human support is undervalued in company administration, until you hit a problem that needs an urgent answer: a client asking for your VAT number, a bank querying your registered address, a filing deadline approaching. At that point, response time matters.

Accounting from €79/month. Monthly packages cover bookkeeping, tax filing, VAT compliance, and the statutory requirements each jurisdiction imposes. The exact scope scales with your chosen plan and company activity level.

Single platform across jurisdictions. One interface for all countries, not separate portals for each. For founders with multi-country structures, that reduces administrative fragmentation considerably.

Pros

  • Genuine multi-country support. Estonia, Ireland, Bulgaria, and Spain from a single provider — unique in this market segment. Founders with cross-border plans can stay with one platform rather than managing multiple provider relationships.
  • Zero-fee Estonia formation under Premium Plan. Paying only the €265 state fee with no service markup makes the Estonian entry point competitive on pure cost, comparable to Unicount and Dalanta.
  • Fast, human chat support. Sub-minute average response time is a meaningful operational advantage, particularly for founders managing compliance in an unfamiliar jurisdiction.
  • Transparent jurisdiction-specific pricing. Each country has all-in pricing for the formation package, making it straightforward to compare costs across options before committing.
  • Built for digital businesses. The onboarding flows assume a non-resident, digital-first company profile. You are not fighting a product designed for a different type of business.

Cons

  • Newer brand with a shorter track record. Companio has not been operating as long as Xolo or 1Office. In a sector where you entrust your company's compliance to a third party, longevity matters. A provider that pivots, downsizes, or exits creates real administrative disruption. Companio's trajectory appears stable, but the runway of demonstrated reliability is shorter than the established players.
  • Higher formation costs for Bulgaria and Ireland. €1,199 for Bulgaria and €899 for Ireland are substantial one-time fees. For founders still validating whether they need a company in those jurisdictions, the upfront commitment is significant.
  • Spain offering is narrower. The Spanish service covers freelancer administration rather than full company formation. Founders specifically wanting to incorporate a Spanish SL (sociedad limitada) should clarify the exact scope before proceeding.
  • Smaller user base than the market leader. Fewer publicly reviewable accounts of real-world experience make independent due diligence harder. The positive reviews that exist are genuinely positive, but the sample size is smaller than for Xolo.
  • Monthly accounting cost is not low. At €79/month on the Pro plan, the ongoing cost for Estonia sits in the same range as Xolo's Standard plan. Multi-country coverage is the differentiator here, not the price.

Who is Companio best for?

Companio is the strongest fit for:

  • Founders who need flexibility across EU jurisdictions. If you are undecided between Estonia, Ireland, and Bulgaria — or genuinely need entities in more than one — Companio is the only provider in this market that handles all of them.
  • Irish and Bulgarian company seekers. For founders who have specifically decided on Ireland or Bulgaria, Companio is one of very few formation services with hands-on experience in those countries alongside the full ongoing administration stack.
  • Digital companies and freelancers. Non-residents managing everything remotely will find the product fits their workflow.
  • Founders who value responsive support. If fast human response times are a priority — and for founders managing compliance in an unfamiliar jurisdiction, they often should be — Companio's support model is a genuine advantage.

Companio is less well-suited for founders who want the lowest possible monthly accounting cost, who need deep integration with complex accounting structures, or who prioritise an extensive public track record above all else.

Looking ahead: Companio and EU Inc

The EU Inc proposal, a standardised company form available across all member states, is working its way through the European legislative process. When it comes into force, it will create a new category of formation work that no existing provider has built infrastructure for yet. Companio's multi-country experience puts it in a structurally stronger position than Estonia-only providers to support EU Inc once the legal framework is finalised — a team already managing legal, accounting, and compliance specifics across four jurisdictions has a more transferable foundation than one operating in a single country. Not a guarantee. But worth factoring into a long-term platform choice.

Verdict

Estonia formation: €265 (state fee only, no service markup under Premium Plan) Ireland formation: €899 one-time (includes first year company secretarial) Bulgaria formation: €1,199 one-time Monthly accounting: From €79/month (Pro plan) Support: Real-time chat, average response under 1 minute Best for: Multi-jurisdiction founders, Irish and Bulgarian company formation, digital businesses and freelancers
